PE

At St. Mary’s Primary School, we ensure all pupils are equipped with the knowledge and understanding of the value of leading a healthy lifestyle and the benefit of physical activity for the duration of their lives by instilling values such as sportsmanship, patience, and determination in all. Through healthy and competitive sports, children will learn to cooperate and to compete fairly, understanding their own and others’ roles. We endeavour to provide children with the confidence they need to develop a growing self-awareness and a commitment to self-improvement. We aim to ensure children raise their own aspirations, set goals and work hard to achieve them, seeing how this will influence their opportunities in education, leisure and in future life.

At St Mary’s, we have a large playing field, used widely in the community. We have a large playground and a school hall to offer a range of sport during the curriculum and well-attended after-school sports clubs.

We are fortunate to participate in sports competitions outside of school as well as be regularly visited by professional coaches, including the Bath Rugby Foundation and Somerset Cricket Board, who pass on their knowledge and expertise to our pupils.
