This year in Badgers Class, we have 24 enthusiastic and hard-working children taught by Miss Heath and Miss Rhymer. In Year 2, we aim to make learning fun as children build new skills and grow in independence. It is always a joy to watch their confidence and progress flourish throughout the year.
Things to Remember
Reading at Home: Children should read at home at least four times a week, with each session logged in their reading record. They can earn certificates through our whole-school reading challenge as their total reads increase.
Phonics & Accelerated Reader: At the start of the year, children will read decodable phonics books aligned with our Unlocking Letters and Sounds scheme. Each book should be read twice to build fluency and comprehension. Later in the year, children will move on to the Accelerated Reader programme, taking a quick online comprehension quiz after completing a book before choosing a new one from the school library.
PE Kits: PE lessons take place weekly. Please ensure your child's PE kit remains in school and includes clothing suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Forest School: Held twice a term, Forest School gives children hands-on outdoor learning opportunities. Please send in warm, waterproof clothing on these days so they can comfortably change.
Maths Apps: Children are encouraged to practice maths skills at home using Numbots, where they can earn certificates as they progress through the levels. Additional tasks aligned with classroom learning will also be set on DoodleMaths.
Times Tables: As the year progresses, we will focus on learning the 2, 5, and 10 times tables. Children can practise these interactively using Times Tables Rock Stars.
